Australia had a good performance at the Ashes series against England. Despite their success, head coach Justin Langer’s contract has not been renewed. He signed with Australia back in 2018 and it might end after four unbalanced years.
Langer is a coach with good tactics but the players were reportedly dissatisfied with it. He has been critiqued for his approach to coaching because he tends to be a volatile coach. That kind of explosive criticism is not what players want to see and hear because they want to be treated with respect.
Langer has expressed interest in staying on as the coach but ultimately, the decision is up to the team. This has led to Trevor Bayliss as the number one choice among the current support staff and the senior players on the team for replacing Langer as the head coach.
This has been a long time coming for Australia because Langer’s job has been in jeopardy for a long time. Back in January 2021, the Aussies lost to India which prompted some heated
discussions in the dressing room. While Bayliss is the favourite, you might see other names in the cricket news portal including a popular Aussie assistant coach, Andrew McDonald.
Bayliss has shown interest already
Back in June 2021, Bayliss already talked about his interest in the coaching job. Bayliss already has experience in the franchise T20 circuit in Australia in the Big Bash League. He said, ‘The only full-time job I’d contemplate in the future if it came up would be the Australian job. But I’m very happy coaching two or three of the franchise teams around the world’.
Bayliss has already made a connection with the country’s domestic league and it will not be a surprise if the rumours are confirmed that he will be the next coach for the Aussies. He will be a good coach for the team because he knows how to communicate his tactics well to the players.
In comparison, Langer has struggled with maintaining his relationship with the players which led to him deferring to his aides in 2021.
Bayliss will be a breath of fresh air
Bayliss will be a breath of fresh air for the Aussies because they’ve had to play for Langer for the past four years. They have been successful but they’ve reached their ceiling.
While the Aussies had some solid performances in recent months, Langer did not secure his place atop the coaching staff. Test captain Pat Cummins tried to help his case to stay but he also shared his thoughts about what can happen in the next few months.
Cummins said, ‘I think we’ll savour this victory today and continue for the Ashes and I don’t think today’s the day to speculate on that. I think we’ll savour this victory today and continue for the Ashes and I don’t think today’s the day to speculate on that’.
You should remain up to date with the Aussie coaching debacle on a cricket news portal. Hopefully, they find a solution to their problem.
